Carlo, 79 is my grand uncle.

He lives in a small village in northern Italy, in the same house, since the mid 1960s.

At the end of the Great War, Italy was split and devastated. 

Working abroad, was the only choice. After a friend's invitation he moved to Bale,Switzerland. Worked hard at General Motors., and saved to finally move back and build his home.

Italy's economy was back on track again, and Carlo and his parents shared the new house until their passing away. He never married, now Carlo is on his own, with his sister Oliva 81, who lives 2 miles away.

He spends his time reading the paper,playing card games with old time friends, and watching TV: Italian calcio, gossip shows, or any of the daily transmissions with Silvio Berlusconi at the center of the screen. Nothing unusual ...
